Norne gas lines laid

July 31, 2000, 16:00 CEST

Work on laying the gas export pipeline from Statoil's Norne field in the Norwegian Sea was completed last week.

Exporting gas via a tie-in with the group's Åsgard Transport trunkline to Kårstø north of Stavanger will secure optimal oil production from Norne.

The 16-inch line runs for 128 kilometres and forms part of an export system which also includes another 16-inch line running 39 kilometres from Heidrun, completed on 1 June.

Tie-in of the Norne line to the field's production ship via a flexible riser remains to be completed, along with the tie-in of both lines to Ã…sgard Transport.

"We expect to be ready to start exporting gas in October," says Kåre Østrem, acting project manager for Norne gas export.

Laying of the Norne line is estimated to cost a total of NOK 1.6 billion.
