September 11, 2000, 12:00 CEST

A man has died following a working accident at 02.15 this morning, 11 September, on Statoil's Veslefrikk field in the North Sea.

The deceased, a 32-year-old Danish citizen, was part of the crew on the Mærsk Seeker vessel owned by contractor Maersk.

This ship was participating in the replacement of an anchor chain on the semi-submersible Veslefrikk B production platform.

The man was hit on the head by the chain, and suffered serious cranial injuries. He died in the helicopter en route to Haukeland Hospital in Bergen.

"All the relevant authorities have been notified, and we've appointed an internal committee of inquiry to investigate the causes of this accident," reports Brian Bjordal, senior vice president for the Troll/Sleipner business cluster.
