Survey job awarded

December 19, 2000, 09:20 CET

A contract worth roughly NOK 60 million for seabed surveying and pipeline inspection in 2001 has been awarded by Statoil to Deep Ocean.

Covering the Norwegian continental shelf, survey work will start on 1 April and is expected to last for four-five months.

Sector manager Øivind Nilsen reports that 4,000 kilometres of Statoil's submarine pipelines are due to be inspected next year.

Deep Ocean won the contract after an overall assessment of vessel, price, equipment, personnel, and health, safety and the environment.

"This company also worked for us in 2000 and did a good job," says Mr Nilsen. He notes that the vessel offered, Normand Tonjer, has proved efficient and flexible.

In addition to pipeline inspection, Deep Ocean will survey the seabed around Statoil's Mikkel field in the Norwegian Sea and other relevant development projects.

The company is also due to support the laying of the group's Huldra condensate pipeline in the North Sea.

Long-term frame agreements for this type of work were concluded by Statoil last January with Halliburton, Deep Ocean, Stolt Offshore and Geoconsult.
