The job of strengthening the weak points in the welded joints in pipe connections on the Åsgard field in the Norwegian Sea has been allocated to Halliburton.
The contract is worth around NOK 250 million and has been awarded under an existing frame agreement for marine operations.
When the Smørbukk structure was being prepared for production last autumn weaknesses were discovered in 72 pipe connections on the seabed; this pipe connects the Midgard and Smørbukk reservoirs with the production installations.
The repair work will be carried out with the aid of remote-controlled subsea equipment. Work is due to start on 1 May and is expected to be completed later this year.
Ola Krumsvik, head of production for Åsgard, says that the work will not have an impact on the contractual gas deliveries, since production from the Midgard reservoir can be maintained while repairs are being carried out on Smørbukk.
The repairs on Midgard will be carried out in connection with a turnaround in the second half of May. At that time contracted gas volumes will be supplied with help from other fields.
