Gas talks with Hydro

April 17, 2001, 10:00 CEST

The possible sale of 500 million cubic metres of gas per year for ammonia production at Norsk Hydro's complex in Herøya south of Oslo is currently under discussion.

Hydro wants to reach agreement with the Norwegian Gas Negotiating Committee (GFU) so that deliveries can begin as soon as possible.

“Replacing the liquefied petroleum gases we currently use with natural gas will be cheaper,” says energy procurement manager Steinar Solheim in Hydro’s fertiliser business.

LPG is transported to Herøya by ship. Mr Solheim says that any natural gas sales deal will be based on laying a pipeline to the Grenland industrial region, which embraces Herøya.
