Mikkel umbilicals placed

June 25, 2001, 01:45 CEST

Umbilicals are to be delivered by Nexans Norway to Statoil’s Mikkel gas and condensate field in the Norwegian Sea under a contract worth NOK 140 million.

This order has been placed on the operator’s behalf by FMC Kongsberg Subsea as the main contractor for subsea production systems in the development.

Nexans Norway will produce a total of 75 kilometres of umbilical in three sections. The main length extends for 68 kilometres and will tie Mikkel with Statoil’s Åsgard gas platform.

These umbilicals will be produced at the company’s Halden plant south of Oslo, with delivery in 2002.

Mikkel is being brought on stream as a pure subsea development tied back to Ã…sgard B for wellstream processing, with production due to begin in 2003.

The field has been allocated to a gas supply contract, and a plan for development and operation (PDO) is under preparation.

Since the contract has been concluded before official approval of the PDO, it incorporates the necessary cancellation clauses.
