New energy services company established in Germany

October 2, 2003, 10:00 CEST

Norsk Hydro is integrating its energy advisory service for internal and external customers in Germany, France, Belgium and the Netherlands.

The newly established company Hydro Energie Deutschland GmbH will take over the current advisory services within the energy area of Hydro Aluminium Deutschland GmbH. Hydro will thus expand and further develop its activities for external customers, particularly in connection with electricity supply.

Hydro Energie Deutschland GmbH will, together with the European energy trading operation Norsk Hydro Energie AS, offer a wider service partnership.

Following its acquisition of VAW aluminium AG in 2002, Norsk Hydro has become one of the largest electricity consumes in Europe. With its production of plant nutrition, Hydro is also a major consumer of natural gas on the Continent. This position in the electricity and gas markets requires a high level of expertise and a strong presence in the market.

With this background, Hydro’s Scandinavian operations have offered advisory services to industries and suppliers for around ten years.

“In connection with the gradual liberalization in continental Europe, we have also helped customers in these markets to optimize their energy purchases for the last two years,” says Rainer Voermans, managing director of Hydro Energie Deutschland GmbH.
