Intervention job planned

January 22, 2004, 08:00 CET

WellOps (UK) Ltd has received a letter of intent from Statoil covering a planned campaign of light well intervention on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS) during the coming summer.

This programme will follow up a very successful exercise carried out on the NCS by Prosafe with MSV Regalia in 2003 to qualify such operations.

Further negotiations with WellOps will aim to put in place a contract on using the Seawell well intervention vessel for this year’s job.

Seawell has been involved during recent years in intervention and diving support activities for several operators on the UK continental shelf.

This vessel has also been deployed for Statoil on the NCS, including work on its Heidrun field in the Norwegian Sea and the Tommeliten development in the North Sea.

The planned intervention campaign is due to be pursued on the Statfjord East, Tordis/Vigdis and Gullfaks South fields in the North Sea and Ã…sgard in the Norwegian Sea.

Light well intervention involves workovers in which the wireline is run directly into a subsea well without the riser required when such activities are carried out from a rig.

This method can accordingly be implemented from a ship, and is simpler and cheaper than the traditional rig-based solution.
