Gas is the principal theme for Statoilâs stand at the Offshore Northern Seas (ONS) exhibition, which opens in Stavanger today, 24 August.
Over the next few years, gas operations in the group are set to expand sharply. From a solid position in Europe, it will become a major international gas player with activities world-wide.
âOur stand presents the projects which will earn us this status within the next two-three years,â reports Lars Gunnar Dahle, project manager for Statoilâs ONS involvement.
Projects in Azerbaijan and Algeria are among those being presented at ONS, along with the Snøhvit development in the Norwegian sector of the Barents Sea.
Statoil will be involved in gas production from the Shah Deniz field in Azerbaijanâs sector of the Caspian, which is due to be piped to Turkey.
In Algeria, the group is joint operator for the In Salah gas development and the In Amenas gas and condensate discovery in the Sahara.
Gas from In Salah is earmarked for southern European markets.
Production from Snøhvit will be shipped as liquefied natural gas by special carrier to Cove Point in Maryland and destinations in Spain.
Visitors to the Statoil presentation at ONS will be introduced to the gas life cycle. This ranges from production and transport to processing and use.
