NOK 1 million has been donated by Statoil to support the development of a knowledge competition developed by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to promote tolerance.
Launched today, 7 December, under the name Against All Odds, this game is aimed at secondary school pupils and based on the UNâs Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
It consists of three components â a computer game, a facts section and a teacher guide.
The computer game provides a virtual experience of being a refugee and asylum seeker, and what it feels like to begin a new life in a strange country.
âWeâve supported this project because we regard it as an important part of our social responsibility,â says Nina Udnes Tronstad, Statoilâs executive vice president for health, safety and the environment. âWe want to combat all human rights breaches.â
As a national and international player, Statoil has a responsibility to support international initiatives which promote tolerance and diversity, she emphasises.
She took part in the official launch at Midtstuen School in Oslo together with AntĂłnio Guterres, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Trygve G Nordby, director general of the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration, and others.
Statoil has a collaboration with the UNHCR at local level in such countries as Angola and Azerbaijan.
