Incident on Grane quickly resolved

February 18, 2006, 18:45 CET

The alarm sounded at about 4:00 p.m. on Saturday for a minor gas leak from a compressor on the Grane platform in the North Sea. The situation was quickly brought under control and normalized after about 45 minutes.

No personal injuries occurred as a result of the incident. Production was shut down and personnel were assembled for a briefing of the situation as a matter of routine. The proper authorities were advised of the gas leak and the incident will be investigated.

Production on the platform has resumed.

The Grane field has an integrated accommodation, process and drilling platform atop a steel jacket. Platform production started in September 2003.

Natural gas is injected into the reservoir to increase oil recovery. The gas is transported to the field from the Heimdal platform, while the oil produced on Grane is transported in a dedicated pipeline to the onshore Sture terminal in western Norway.
