Statoil is renewing its corporate agreement with the Norwegian Refugee Council and donating NOK 500,000 to the humanitarian organisation. The parties have signed a binding collaboration agreement for 2006 with an option to extend it.
Statoil wants to increase the internal awareness and skills concerning human rights and humanitarian conditions in general and in countries where the country has interests.
âThrough this financial assistance to the Norwegian Refugee Council, Statoil gets access to that organisationâs expertise," says Rolf Magne Larsen, senior vice president for country analysis and social responsibility.
"We hope that the agreement will help raise awareness among our employees concerning human rights and development issues.â
Mr Larsen believes that this collaboration may help improve and assure the quality of efforts related to the group's social responsibility, and thus reduce political and reputation risks.
Statoil has signed corporate agreements with several humanitarian organisations and is collaborating with them on various initiatives concerning social responsibility, social development projects and relief work. Statoil also uses the organisationsâ expertise in various projects in its international operations.
