Hydro is in dialogue with the company Hurtigruten Group ASA regarding the rental of a vessel used for Hurtigruten/The Norwegian Coastal Voyage, in order to ensure sufficient sleeping accommodation during the peak staffing phase for the Ormen Lange project this autumn.
This could provide Hydro with an extra 200-300 beds for staff working on the project.
Over 3000 people are due to live and work at Nyhamna in Aukra municipality during the planned peak staffing period in the development of the land-based facility for the Ormen Lange gas.
The Hurtigruten ship will probably dock near the land-based processing plant at Nyhamna in the beginning of September.
In addition to the ship, Hydro’s hotel for the Ormen Lange plant will also help to provide the required sleeping accommodation. This hotel has almost 3000 rooms – on a par with some of the largest hotels in the world.
The main reason for the increased need for beds is that the project contractors’ staffing curve has turned out to be somewhat steeper than previously envisaged, with a peak staffing level that will last for two to three months. In order to meet the contractors’ accommodation needs, as well as having sufficient reserve accommodation, Hydro - as Ormen Lange operator - has found that hiring a Hurtigruten ship would be expedient.
In addition, there has been less local and regional recruitment than expected. This means that the Ormen Lange project has to hire in more manpower from far away than originally anticipated.
