Production on Oseberg South resumed

September 6, 2006, 14:45 CEST

Production on the Oseberg South platform in the North Sea has resumed at reduced capacity after a brief stoppage in connection with a short circuit in a transformer on Monday night.

A short circuit occurred in a transformer supplying the gas injection compressor, and the equipment must be repaired or replaced before production can return to normal levels.

Oseberg South produces 65,000 to 70,000 barrels of oil per day. It is estimated that production from the platform will be reduced by 30,000 barrels a day before the transformer returns to normal operation. According to plan normal operation will be resumed during the weekend or early next week.

Gas exports from the Oseberg area will not be affected.
