Terra Nova back in production

November 15, 2006, 09:30 CET

Production on the Canadian offshore field Terra Nova has started again. Oil production started on Sunday and the field is now producing 75,000 barrels a day from five wells.

Water injection has commenced, and restart of the remaining wells is in progress. The operator expects the field to produce 100,000-110,000 barrels/day by the end of the year.

In June the FPSO vessel was disconnected from its turret on the field and taken to Rotterdam where an extensive overhaul was carried out. It was back on the field by late September.

While the vessel was in the shipyard 40 new beds were installed, making a total of 120 beds. This will enable more inspection and maintenance to be done when the ship is at sea.

Hydro has a 15 percent interest in the field, for which Petro-Canada is operator.
