"High quality logging services is fundamental to characterise reservoirs in the exploration and production phase. This increases our precision of estimating hydrocarbon volumes and increases recovery", says senior vice president of Exploration in Statoil, Erling VÃ¥gnes.

The awarded contract of above BNOK 2 covers provision of electric wireline logging services such as open hole logging, cased hole logging, borehole seismic and perforation services.

The contract acquires Schlumberger to use advanced technological equipment, apply new technology and come up with innovative solutions for formation evaluation and drilling and well operations.

Schlumberger is well known to Statoil and has proven ability to handle Statoil's work scope with its solid organisation, technology and substantial experience.

"This contract is given to Schlumberger based on a combined technical and commercial evaluation. Formation evaluation is an important part of effective and cost efficient exploration and optimal reservoir drainage, the basis for high recovery rates", says head of drilling and well in Statoil, Øystein Håland.

The contract applies for all exploration and production licenses on the NCS.

The contract will run from 1 February 2013 and holds the possibility of several extensions.
