New interactive learning center, WindScape Brooklyn, debuts

WindScape Brooklyn, located in Sunset Park, offers exhibits and programs dedicated to offshore wind energy education, serving as a community center and providing workforce development resources.
BROOKLYN, NY – WindScape Brooklyn, New York’s first immersive learning center dedicated to offshore wind energy education, debuted Friday with a Sunset Park community celebration. Developed on behalf of Empire Wind and in close collaboration with New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), and community and educational partners, WindScape Brooklyn explores how wind, people and landscape work in unison to drive technological innovation and progress.
The Center’s interactive exhibits and programming offer visitors of all ages a first-hand look at the wonder of offshore wind through an immersive experience. Located directly across from the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal (SBMT), WindScape Brooklyn provides visitors an opportunity to witness SBMT’s ongoing transformation into a state-of-the-art maritime hub powering the future of New York.

Featuring eight exhibits, WindScape Brooklyn was developed with direct participation from the local community, including Workforce Development Institute, Red Hook Initiative, Sunset Park High School, Central Brooklyn Economic Development Corporation, and others. The text of all exhibits is available in English, Spanish and Simplified Chinese, reflecting the composition of the Sunset Park community. The center’s design has been reviewed by the Center for Inclusive Design and Environmental Access at the University of Buffalo.

Beyond the exhibition space, WindScape Brooklyn will offer public programming, school field trips, and internship opportunities, establishing the center as a vital community hub. The center’s design includes ample space for gathering, including a multi-use classroom, Co-Lab space, and the immersive, 29-foot-screen Story Box theater. Community groups and local organizations will be able to reserve space free of charge.
