Equinor entered into agreements with Polenergia in early 2018 to acquire interests in two early phase offshore wind development projects, and a joint venture to mature them. The projects have the potential to power more than 2 million Polish households.

Our activities in Poland

In March 2018, Equinor signed an agreement with Polenergia to acquire a 50 % interest in the two early-phase offshore wind development projects in Poland, MFW Bałtyk II and MFW Bałtyk III.

The two projects have a planned capacity of 1200 MW with the potential to power more than two million Polish households.

Equinor is also entering into a 50/50 joint venture with Polenergia to further mature these projects towards future auctions and final investment decisions (FID), with Equinor being the manager for the development and potential construction and operational phases.

Polenergia is an experienced energy company with a growing renewable portfolio and in-depth knowledge of the Polish electricity market.

A region ripe for wind power
The MFW Bałtyk II and MFW Bałtyk III wind farm areas are in the Baltic Sea approximately 27 and 40 kilometres from the port of Łeba, in water depths of 20-40 metres. Equinor is already developing the Arkona offshore windfarm together with EON in the German part of the Baltic Sea.

We are entering a market with growth potential through two of the most advanced offshore wind developments in Poland. The country is well-placed to develop a strong offshore wind industry that would create jobs and value in one of the most dynamic parts of the European markets.

Note: The closing of the transactions with Polenergia is subject to consent of the President of the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection in Poland (as of November 2018).
