Åsgard armada

August 2, 1999, 14:00 CEST

An armada of different vessels is currently pursuing a wide range of activities for Statoil's Åsgard development in the Norwegian Sea.

The Transocean Winner and Transocean Searcher rigs are in full swing with drilling and completing production wells as part of a 51-well programme.

At the same time, seismic data are being collected by Geco Topaz and oil production is under way from the Åsgard A ship.

Including the latter, roughly 13 vessels are in action on or around the field - including the LB 200 laybarge which is close to completing work on the Åsgard Transport gas trunkline.

Piles to assist the laying of infield flowlines later this year are also currently being set.

The area will become even busier from August and into the autumn, with 18-20 vessels helping to install subsea installations on Åsgard.

Each of these vessels has its own special role. Four will install flowline bundles, umbilicals and subsea production units, as well as doing tie-in jobs.

Another three are due to work on trenching and gravel dumping, while roughly six support ships will do such jobs as anchorhandling and pipe transport.
