Two subsea templates originally built for a different field have been installed on Statoil's Gullfaks South development in the North Sea.
Put in place on 21 August, the L and M templates were manufactured for the Connemara field off Ireland and one was used for extended testing of this discovery.
Development plans for Connemara were dropped by Statoil because its production properties were inadequate, and the two structures have now been modified for use on Gullfaks South.
The latter forms part of the Gullfaks satellites project, which also embraces the Rimfaks and Gullveig discoveries and is being pursued in two phases.
Phase 1, covering oil and condensate production from all three fields with gas injection, came on stream last year.
Production from the second phase, which primarily embraces gas recovery, is due to begin on 1 October 2001.
The three satellites are due to yield about 260 million barrels of oil and condensate between 1998 and 2012.
This development ranks as the second largest subsea project off Norway, exceeded only by Statoil's Ã…sgard scheme in the Norwegian Sea.
