Production began from the two Sigyn satellites in the North Sea on 22 December, roughly three months ahead of the original schedule.
âWeâre pleased to be involved in bringing this project in earlier than planned and to budget,â says Tor Torsøy, Statoilâs manager for development work on the field.
ExxonMobil subsidiary Esso Exploration & Production is operator for the gas and condensate (light oil) field, but Statoil has been responsible for part of the development.
Under an agreement between the licensees, the group has handled drilling and subsea operations as well as modification work on its Sleipner A platform.
Mr Torsøy reports that Statoil has enjoyed a good and constructive collaboration with the operator during the development project.
Production is under way from one well in Sigyn East and two in Sigyn West, all drilled from the same subsea template. The wellstream travels through two flowlines to Sleipner A.
While the satellites are remotely operated from the platform, Esso is responsible for reservoir management.
The Sigyn deposits were discovered by Esso in 1982 and 1997. They lie about 12 kilometres south-east of Sleipner East and are expected to produce for 10 years.
Statoil has a 50 per cent interest in Sigyn, with Esso holding 40 per cent and Norsk Hydro 10 per cent.
