Namibia – exploring a promising basin

Through our entry into Namibia and our position in the Orange Basin, we intend to better understand the area’s energy potential and explore opportunities that could support the development of our international portfolio.

On 18 August 2026, Equinor announced an agreement with Harmattan Energy Limited, a Chevron subsidiary in Namibia, to acquire a 17.4% participating interest in Petroleum Exploration Licence 90 (PEL 90) in the Orange Basin offshore Namibia.

The licence relates to Block 2813B in the Orange Basin, offshore Namibia, and is operated by Chevron. Following the completion of the transaction, Chevron’s interest in PEL 90 changes to 35.1% (from 52.5% previously), with the other partners in the licence being QatarEnergy (27.5%), Trago Energy (10%) and the state-owned oil company NAMCOR (10%).

A strategic position in the Atlantic Margin

Namibia forms part of the South Atlantic Margin, a region where we have developed expertise through activities spanning several countries. The Orange Basin has attracted growing industry interest following a series of significant discoveries in recent years and is increasingly recognised as a basin with substantial long-term potential.
