Impact Assessment plays a key role in meeting Equinor’s commitments to sustainability. It is an integral part of our overall risk management process, supporting the identification, prediction, evaluation and management of environmental, social, and other relevant impacts of proposed activities before major decisions are made.
The ultimate objective of impact assessment is to enhance positive outcomes while avoiding, minimising, and mitigating adverse impacts. To manage risks, we apply the mitigation hierarchy. The mitigation hierarchy is an internationally recognized framework, guiding a structured approach that contains four key actions — ‘avoid’, ‘minimize’ ‘restore’ and ‘offset’. These actions are applied sequentially and prioritised where feasible.
Recognising that countries have different regulatory frameworks and approaches to stakeholder involvement, Equinor’s ambition is to comply with applicable national requirements while applying international best practice as reflected in recognised standards and guidelines. We continuously seek to improve the quality, consistency, and decision relevance of our impact assessments.
Transparency, access to information, and open dialogue with potentially affected communities and other stakeholders are core elements of the impact assessment process. These principles support responsible decision-making, long-term value creation, and trust with stakeholders.
In joint ventures and partner-operated projects, Equinor endeavours to promote its principles for impact assessment as a key tool for managing environmental and social performance throughout the project lifecycle. Our impact assessments are published below in PDF format and are available for download. Projects are listed alphabetically by name. Older projects may be removed from the website but remain available upon request. Reports are normally published in their original language only. Norwegian projects are therefore available in Norwegian only.
