Europipe II ready

September 21, 1999, 10:00 CEST

The Europipe II trunkline constructed by Statoil has been filled with gas, allowing deliveries to European customers to begin as planned on 1 October.

Flowing gas into the 660-kilometre line from Statoil's treatment plant at Kårstø north of Stavanger was completed around 15.00 on 19 September, reports staff engineer Steinar Meland in the group's traffic control centre at Bygnes.

Europipe II runs from Kårstø to Dornum on the German coast, which has become a new delivery point for Norwegian gas. Such supplies are already delivered in Emden.

The Netra land pipeline to eastern Germany has been extended to Dornum from its original starting point at Etzel in order to transport Europipe II gas on to the market.

This section will be filled with gas over the next week and is also due to be ready on 1 October.
