Fatal accident at Aker Stord

January 31, 2005, 22:45 CET

A 46-year-old man died on 31 January after being injured on the Kristin platform under construction for operator Statoil at the Aker Stord yard in western Norway.

The victim was transferred by helicopter to Bergen’s Haukeland University Hospital and operated on, but later died of injuries sustained when he was crushed by a hydraulically-operated door.

He was an employee of Dalseide & Fløysand, one of Aker Stord’s sub-contractors on the platform, which is due to be installed in the Norwegian Sea.

Aker Kvaerner, the yard’s owner, has established an investigation team in which Statoil is represented. The police and the Norwegian Labour Inspection Authority have been notified.
