The board of Norwegian state oil company Statoil has today appointed Olav Fjell as new president and chief executive officer for the group.
Aged 48, Mr Fjell has been president of Postbanken since it was established in 1995. This bank ranks as Norway's fourth largest.
He has an economics degree from the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration in Bergen, and his professional background is in industry and banking.
Earlier posts include the job of corporate controller at Kongsberg Våpenfabrikk and senior positions in Bergen Bank and Den norske Bank.
